Encourage discussion with the local authority for the eficency of renewable energy

Aarhus Information Center with the support and collaboration with local authority and private business, organized the following activity in 21.01.2015 at Himara Municipality to discuss about the importance and the usage of renewable energy.

The aim of this meeting was raising the public awareness of local actors, civil society and the group of interests for the issue of renewable energy and solar panels.

Promoting the Aarhus Convention Principles with students – and their awareness for the environmental protection- an important step toward sustainable development.

Aarhus Information Centre Vlorë, with the support and in collaboration with REC Albania, SENiOR-A Programme, organized a training with students of Vlora University, Departament of Biology in 20.01.2015 at 11:00 a.m. This training was organized in the framework of promoting Aarhus Convention Principles with youths at the Departament of Biology.

Support effective environmental governance at national and local level

The poor waste management system in Albania is a reflection of various problems. In recent years, legislation in Albania is developing in full compliance with best international practices. There is a lack of balance between the demand for a new legal framework, limited human resources and waste management practices in the country. The 2013 EU Development Report for Albania emphasizes that the waste situation has become the main source of environmental pollution. Waste separation and the recycling process are still at low levels.

Youth Eco Clubs – a new initiative to improve the environment

Throughout this project there were involved about 2000 youth, by establishment of a network called "Youth Eco-Clubs” and through concrete activities and actions did raise the public awareness of citizens and decision-makers for environment protection. Young people have managed to convey a message to every citizen to protect the environment. Also the project was very worthwhile in terms of increasing awareness to public officials by giving them a message to local decision-making institutions to pay more attention for increasing the investment for environment protection. The project was implemented in Municipalities of Vlora, Orikum Novosel and Qender

Renewable energy initiatives, an important step toward the sustainable development

This project aims to increase public awareness of local actors and decision-makers at local level, the civil society and stakeholders in the field of renewable energy and especially for the solar panels. Combining f training and public forums with practical implementation of pilot projects for the installation of photovoltaic and solar panels at the public institutions, aims to promote the production of green energy, which serves for the SUSTAINABLE development. Public participation is regarded as a necessity of planning and local programming for the implementation of this project.

Raising the public awareness of youths and citizens about waste separation and recycling

This project aims to raise public awareness of citizens, local officials and youth about the important role of the waste separating and the recycling for the environment protection and waste reduction. Through public awareness sessions, training and concrete actions in Himara, the project aims to create a good model to be followed by the others regarding the cooperation between local government, private business and citizens for a sustainable development.

EITI initiative and promotion of public participation for mine and oil project

Vlora Aarhus Information Centre in cooperation with the Albanian Initiative for Transparency in the Extractive Industry (ALBEITI), local governments and municipalities of Patos & Bulqizė, with financial support of the OSCE Presence in Albania organized two roundtables respectively in Bulqiza town (5 March 2014) and Patos town (20 March 2014) with participation of  local decision-making actors, representatives from petrol companies and mining industry operating in the district of Bulqiza and Patos / Fier, civil society and the technical staff of the Secretariat of ALBEITI.
