Recycling - A challenge that starts with youths
Project funded by REC Albania within the SENiOR-A program, Operational Grants.
Environmental protection is a very broad term and often very difficult to break down. Trying to do great things in appearance, we forget to deal with simple, small things, but concrete and practical, as well as very necessary and important for the future. The lack of local unit capacities for integrated urban waste management and the lack of appropriate strategies should be seen not only as a defect but also as an opportunity for civil society and organizations to enable the realization of some concrete initiatives that can be implemented for the benefit of the environment and citizens, in close cooperation between all actors, stakeholders and stakeholders.
The market economy has made it possible for many private initiatives to flourish in the field of recycling, however, our culture as a citizen to separate waste that can be recycled by the relevant category is missing. This may also be due to decision-makers, such as the lack of appropriate bins for any residues that can be recycled, or even lack of a multi-stakeholder awareness plan.
This project aims to harmonize; a process of training on the importance and advantages of recycling; the concrete implementation of the waste separation in different bins from schools; fostering competition between different schools by organizing competitions for the accumulated amount translated into symbolic rewards such as planting trees or tables in the yard by means of accumulated income, creating a new model and new culture among young people in particular to all citizens and decision-makers in general.
The coverage of activities and initiatives in local media and social networks will encourage other schools to join the initiative and encourage local government to extend such an initiative even in different neighborhoods in the city of Himara.
