Raising the public awareness of youths and citizens about waste separation and recycling

Summary of the project:
This project aims to raise public awareness of citizens, local officials and youth about the important role of the waste separating and the recycling for the environment protection and waste reduction. Through public awareness sessions, training and concrete actions in Himara, the project aims to create a good model to be followed by the others regarding the cooperation between local government, private business and citizens for a sustainable development.
Project Purpose:
Educating young generation and citizens with the culture of waste separation and recycling through concrete activities.
Project Objectives:
- Raising public awareness of children in 9-year-old schools of Himara Municipality about the role of waste separation and recycling;
- Strengthen the cooperation of local governments, schools and private companies of waste recycling for a consistency of the waste recycling process;
- Organizing activities and the realization of environmental concrete actions during national and international environmental days
Activities / deadlines:
1 - Meetings and consultations with representatives of local authorities, Himara Municipality, Regional Education Directorate, environmental activists, and civil society representatives, to present the initiative - May 2014;
2 - Implementation of 12 educational sessions on the importance of waste separating and recycling with citizens and youth in schools of Himara Municipality - May, June 2014;
3 - Providing schools with the appropriate bins for each recyclable waste and the signing of the agreement with the company Emmaus Vlora for taking the recycling materials every week - September 2014;
4 - Organization of concrete and public awareness activities to help the environment at the national and international days of the environment - May - December 2014;
5 - Implementation of a competition between schools with the presence of representatives of local institutions, citizens and local media - November 2014;
Expected results:
a-involvement in this initiative over 2,000 citizens and young people in the 9-year-old schools of Himara Municipality by providing personal example of recycling of waste;
b-The creation of a long-term cooperation between local government and the recycling company Emmaus Vlora, for the continuity of recycling process;
c-Creating a new model of involving young people, citizens, community and public authorities in environmental awareness activities to promote recycling in the Municipality of Himara.
