Earth Day is considered as the day of the appeal to the major problems related to land degradation as the result of its abandonment and abuse, pollution by chemicals, erosion caused by massive deforestation. The aim of this day is to raise awareness in the community about the importance of environment and respect towards nature.

In the framework of this day, Aarhus Information Centre for the fifth consecutive year, organized an event in collaboration with the students of the school "Ismail Qemali", the Regional Environment Center (REC Albania), Earth Day Network, young passionate about protecting the environment and citizens a public awareness activity. Throughout this event the Vlora AIC, aims to encourage groups of interest, local decision-makers, civil society and the community to consider the environment issues as main priority not only during international environmental days but every day of the year.

With the motto: "For a greener city," the youths presented their simple creations to express their desire to have more green spaces, more trees, parks and gardens in their town. This activity was attended by 70 students, teachers, environmentalist, civic society representatives and passerby, to convey their message and to become part of the public awareness for lobbying and advocate for the protection of our common home, the earth.
Environmental issues needs more attention by all decision makers in local, national and international level, every day of the year, especially at a time when the planet faces more than ever the consequences of environmental catastrophes, deforestation, greenhouses effect and global warming.
