Support effective environmental governance at national and local level

In the framework of the project: “Support effective environmental governance at national and local level”, Aarhus Information Center Vlora with the support and cooperation of OSCE-Presence in Albania organized a round table with the representatives of Himara Municipality, local business representatives, school directories, teachers and students of Himara High School.

The aim of the round table was to discuss with the participants for the conclusions and recommendations of the project, also discussing about the solutions that Himara Municipality offers for the waste management and the future budget plans for 2015.

After the presentation of the recommendations by Aarhus Information Center there was discussed about the current situation of waste management in Himara Municipality. During the discussion to find the ways and methods to improve the situation of waste, it was very important the approach and suggestion of a student: “The right question that should be done and which might really bring change of the current situation in Himara city would be: What can we do not to pollute the city?, if we find the answer of this question I believe that the waste management would became easier and less expensive.

The representative of the OSCE Presence in Albania said: "Himara can be considered as a clean city compared to the other cities of Albania, however this city needs more projects and even more funds to make it a city with European parameters".

He recommended that there should be realized a post-survey through questionnaires about the impact that the project had to the citizens and to Himara Municipality, how satisfied they are with the activities undertaken, etc. Also, he suggested the implementation of a pilot project to identify the number of citizens and how many of them apply the practice of recycling.

The participation of the schools in the project was active, so the school leaders underlined that the cooperation between them and AIC Vlora will be sustainable and will always aim the involvement of more activists.
