Vjose - Narte Protected Area, especially at the Narta Lagoon

Beneficiary Interest Group:

Fishermen operating in the Narta Lagoon, only those who are members of the OMP (Fisheries Management Organization), who have a fishing license and permit and who respect the hunting season and other legal fishing standards.

The goal of this project:

"Economic empowerment of interest groups in protected areas is a guarantee for the protection and non-damage of these areas, because only by considering this territory as a source of income, they will be able to protect it and not allow anyone to intervene to harm area. "

Short project description

The aim of this project is to raise awareness and change the mentality of residents and interest groups operating in the protected area "Vjosa-Narta", to consider this area, not only as a source of income and livelihood but also as an extraordinary natural wealth that will serve as a home for future generations. The area needs support in better enforcement of the law, for the protection of natural resources, the strengthening of artisanal fishing, while maintaining harmony between wildlife and man. The use of appropriate fishing equipment in this area provides a better protection in preserving the integrity of the ecosystem and ecological balance, adequate protection of wild species, ensuring welfare and conditions for their economic use. Protecting the forest from illegal logging, fires, pests and diseases is an alarm bell for the preservation of the area ecosystem. Carrying out monitoring activities of the state of flora, fauna and ecosystems in this area, enables the identification of current problems.

Project Objectives

1. Accurate and rigorous observance of the legal framework for minimizing human impact in the protected area Vjosa-Narta and preserving the integrity of the ecosystem and ecological balance;

2. Adequate protection of natural resources, ensuring welfare and favorable conditions for their economic use, without damaging the integrity of the ecosystem;

3. Promoting and raising awareness of the community, local government and law enforcement institutions for the design and implementation of favorable policies in support of the Vjosa - Narta protected area, to ensure sustainable development.
